Biography
Leila Falecia Watson Vincent (1897-1979), a native of Slippery Rock, Pennsylvania, graduated from Slippery Rock State Normal School (SRSNS) in 1917. Vincent (nee Watson) was a member of the Philomathean Society who enjoyed subjects such as physics and mathematics but also took part in athletics and music. After graduating from SRSNS in 1917, Vincent furthered her education at Emerson School of Oratory, where she graduated in 1920.
In 1922, Leila married Arthur P. Vincent, a notable graduate from SRSNS. Both became teachers at Slippery Rock State Normal School and then Slippery Rock State Teachers College (SRSTC) with Arthur P. Vincent becoming the chair of the Science Department from 1923 through 1940. Leila Vincent worked at Slippery Rock State Normal School from 1922 to 1925 were she taught varying subjects including Expression, Health Education, and Oral English.
Vincent became deeply involved in the Faculty Women’s Club at SRSNS, SRSTC, and Slippery Rock State College (SRSC) where she was a chartered member from 1925 until her death in 1979. During this time, Vincent served as chair of the Drama Committee, vice president (1928-1929), and president (1939-1941).
In 1971, Leila Vincent earned the Distinguished Alumni Award from Slippery Rock State College for her exemplary service to the college, and to the greater Slippery Rock community.

A. P. Vincent Collection
This collection consists of miscellaneous papers and correspondence from A.P. Vincent covering topics including the crafting of his dissertation, his academic career both at Slippery Rock and not, and personal matters. Also included are various publications mostly spanning his academic career. A sizable portion of the collection contains various records and correspondence from Vincent’s service in the U.S. Air Force between 1917 and the mid-1940s.

The contents of the Emma Guffey Miller collection include speech transcripts, personal correspondence, and personal essays, as well as various publications by and about Miller. Also included in this collection are miscellaneous invitations, memorabilia, and ephemera, both personal and political in nature.
