Scope and Contents
Personal Correspondence includes letters, notes, and cards to and from Nien Cheng. The contents of these materials are mostly personal in nature, though some information about her work and impact as an author can be found in these files. Of interest are individual correspondences between other authors. artists, and political or governmental figures including Susan Mary Alsop, Ruth Bell Graham, Anthony Grey, Princess Alice (Duchess of Gloucester), and Stanley Karnow. There are also letters with individuals representing the Royal Dutch Shell Co. Groups, including from John H. Loudon.
Also included here are drawings and poems written by Nien Cheng's late daughter, Meiping Cheng c. 1955 to family friend Marina Cunningham. These materials were returned to Madame Cheng after relocating to the United States in 1987 by Cunningham. To date, this is the only known remaining personal item from Meiping Cheng.

From the Collection: 24.14 Linear Feet (8 record cartons, 3 document cases, 12 archives boxes, two oversized flat folders.) : The archive is approximately 24.14 linear feet in size and the library contains over 1,200 hardback and paperback 20th-century to 2009 volumes in both English and Chinese.
