Cheng's personal appointment books contain documentation of her finances, daily activities, travel plans, reminders, receipts, and includes records of her numerous speaking engagements after the release of Life and Death in Shanghai.

Of special interest are the years 1986 and 1987 wherein Cheng describes "...the beginning of a new book", and later mentions her first arrivals at Slippery Rock University (October 21, 1987). In November 8th through the 12th of 1987, Cheng also mentions Slippery Rock University and its then President, Dr. Robert Aebersold.
