Scope and Contents
This series features a collection of memorabilia and ephemera associated with Nien Cheng, highlighting her achievements and advocacy work. Included are awards, plaques, and certificates presented to Cheng in recognition of her contributions. The collection also contains textiles, notably an American flag dedicated to Cheng upon her naturalization as a U.S. citizen in 1988, along with items of clothing and other materials. Additionally, the series houses miscellaneous oversized posters documenting Cheng’s lectures and appearances following the publication of Life and Death in Shanghai.

From the Collection: 24.14 Linear Feet (8 record cartons, 3 document cases, 12 archives boxes, two oversized flat folders.) : The archive is approximately 24.14 linear feet in size and the library contains over 1,200 hardback and paperback 20th-century to 2009 volumes in both English and Chinese.

Card with scarf was moved to Series 1A (Individual Correspondences, Undates, FF 21, Box 1). Card read, "Dear Nien, Happy birthday. I hope this card brings you happy memories of your visit to the reading room of the Library of Congress. You are an inspiration to us all. With admiration and affection, Robin and Jill"
Materials Specific Details
Ornate blue and gold silk scarf bought at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York. Item was sent to Cheng as a birthday present.
