Series 1: Captain Reynolds Laughlin Correspondence
Scope and Contents
This collection consists of copied and transcribed correspondence written and received by various Civil War soldiers. Thomas M. Coleman and Martin T. Clayburgh both served in the 6th Regiment of the Missouri Veterans Volunteer Infantry. Their letters chronicle soldier’s lives during the Civil War—politics, courage, religion, and reflect home news, encouragement, pride, and family life. Both sets of correspondence are preceded by introductory materials. The Coleman-Clayburgh letters are ideal for research regarding the Civil War and more specifically, Union soldier's views and attitudes of the time.
