Selman Collection
Scope and Contents
This collection consists of three items. The tax record book is for Butler County, Pennsylvania. No distinction is made for political division; names are alphabetized. The amount of tax, property, and acreage is itemized. The tax collector was William Dyerman, Butler. Further attempts at specifying the type of tax was unsuccessful. The original is held by Barbara Selman.
The Civil War diary belonged to Joseph A. Watson, Co. A, 47th Battalion, Cavalry, under the command of William L. Jackson. He traces the movements of his brigade through Virginia. Weather, discomforts, and enemy peril are detailed. Genealogical value is limited.
The advertising page is from an unidentified source and outlines the expenses at Slippery Rock State Normal School for spring term, 1893. Miscellaneous other businesses from Butler are also shown.

Custodial History
This collection of items was donated by Barbara Selman in 1982. Joseph A. Watson, the author of the Civil War diary, was the maternal great grandfather of Barbara Selman, the donor of this collection. The original diary is located in Florida.
