Biographical / Historical

Jerome “Jerry” Bejbl (1939-2022) was a 1963 Slippery Rock State College alumnus, a Rock Athletics Hall of Fame inductee, and a longtime philanthropist and volunteer. Bejbl enrolled at Slippery Rock State College in 1959, graduating with a BA in Secondary Education/Science in 1963. In addition to pursuing a degree, Bejbl was also a star athlete for SRSC's baseball and football teams, wherein he would set an unbeaten record that would last for 30 years. His athleticism aided in The Rock football team’s back-to-back conference championship wins in 1961 and 1962. After graduation, Bejbl moved to the Illinois area where he worked with Armology of Illinois, a metal coating company. His high work ethic and drive would eventually lead to his ownership of the corporation and its many franchises in the U.S. and Europe. Bejbl received the Outstanding Alumni Award and was included in the SRU Athletic Hall of Fame in 1986. He and his wife Kathy were generous donors to the University, establishing the Jerome Bejbl Football Scholarship in 1988. Over the next decade, the Bejbl family contributed to the University and created the Jerry Bejbl Weight Training Center at Mihalik-Thompson Stadium at Slippery Rock University. By 2012, he had reached 1 million dollars contributed by a single alumnus, a significant achievement in Slippery Rock’s history.
