Content Description

The collection contains publications, media guides, statistics, correspondence, hand- written notes, press releases, news clippings, photographs, and similar materials associated with athletics at Slippery Rock State College and Slippery Rock University from 1910-2015, The bulk of the collection is from 1965-2012. Included in the collection are the eight teams eliminated from the university’s athletic program in 2006.

Biographical / Historical

The Athletic Communication Office, formerly the Sports Information Office, at Slippery Rock University is responsible for handling all public relations efforts relating to The Rock’s 17 intercollegiate athletics programs. The collection includes files maintained by the Athletic Communication Directors of Slippery Rock State College and Slippery Rock University.

Arrangement

The materials are arranged by sport and chronologically therein.

Each sport has been assigned a separate series number. Photographs are assigned sub-series by individual sport.

Custodial History

These records were originally maintained by former Sports Information Directors John Carpenter (1966-1999) and Bob McComas (2000 -2014). Subsequent record transfers have been received by the Athletic Communications Office.
