Scope Note: Shady Grove Music Fair was the venue of choice in the Washington area for movie stars, bands, plays and musicals during the 1960s and 1970s. It was a theater-in-the-round, where the audience surrounded the stage. At one point the stage actually rotated! Acts such as James Brown, Bruce Springsteen, Rod Stewart, Steely Dan, and the Jackson 5 played at Shady Grove. Located near the intersection of I-270 and Shady Grove Road, the site is now office buildings.The venue became so popular that a permanent building was constructed for year-round use.More information at: https://gaithersburghistory.com/postcomment/shadygrovefair.html
