Mihalik, Gordon
Biography
Dr. George Mihalik, known simply as "Coach" to former football players, devoted 45 years to Slippery Rock University. Serving as head football coach from 1988 until the end of the 2015 season, Mihalik remarkably led The Rock in 8 PSAC West Championships and 6 NCAA Division II Playoff Berths. In recognition of Mihalik's success and commitment, the N. Kerr Thompson Stadium was formally renamed and dedicated as "Mihalik-Thompson Stadium" in 2011.
Mihalik was also instrumental in the creation of SRU’s Safety Management program. A rare example of a professor-coach, he taught in that department for (almost) his entire career.
