Biographical / Historical

The ROCKvoices oral history project began in 2008 as a collaborative initiative between SRU’s Bailey Library, the offices of the President and the Provost, and the English Department. The purpose was to capture, preserve, and make available first-hand accounts of SRU history from current and retired faculty, staff, presidents, and alumni. No such project had been undertaken since that of Joe Riggs and Leah Brown in 1991. ROCKvoices has recorded more than 30 interviews, published online as audio files and video clips.

The original advisory board included Cynthia Dillon (Assistant to the Provost), Mark O’Connor (English Department), Judy Silva (University Archivist), Philip Tramdack (Library Director), and Robert Watson (Vice President for Student Affairs and University historian). A team of student workers took part in the initial project, including Brady Crytzer and Teresa DeBacco (office coordinators/interviewers); Sarah Meleski (interview/transcriber); Morgan Bonekovic, Annamae Mayer, Angela Rimmel, and Lindsay Whalen (transcribers); Chelsey Rovesti (webmaster); and Roxanne Rubash (graphic designer). Barbara McGinnis (Library Secretary) also assisted with the initial project. To date, Archives Technicians Kevin McLatchy and Jared Negley, along with Silva and numerous additional Archives student workers, have continued to work on the ROCKvoices oral history project.
