Scope and Contents

This collection consists of documents and artifacts pertaining to the following: Slippery Rock’s Town-Gown Association, a group created to foster relations between the town and the college/university; Slippery Rock Development, Inc. (SRD), a nonprofit organization created to revitalize downtown Slippery Rock; the Butler County Industrial Development Authority (IDA); Slippery Rock University’s and Slippery Rock Township’s Emergency Operations Procedures (EOP); and various publications relating to both the college/university and the town itself. The bulk of the material is relevant to the Town-Gown Association and the redevelopment of downtown Slippery Rock. Besides files and papers, this collection includes blueprints and architectural renderings, and a shovel.

Biographical / Historical

These files were last maintained by Dr. John Bonando, retired, former Executive Director of the Office of Student Health and Wellness. During his time at Slippery Rock University he volunteered his time as a co-chair for the Slippery Rock Development Corporation. This organization, along with key support from State legislators, private foundations, two Governors, and from many private citizens helped with various phases of the Slippery Rock Borough revitalization project.
