Jones, Bob
Biography
Bob Jones,(born 1960) class of 1983, was the original Rocky the Rock Mascot. As a freshman, Jones realized that the college lacked a mascot, so he took it upon himself to create one that was “very unique, like Slippery Rock.” Jones donned the costume at athletic events the rest of his time at Slippery Rock State College. He held onto the original costume when he graduated, but gave the rights to Rocky to the college so Rocky the Rock could continue without him. The original Rocky the Rock now resides in the SRU Archives.
Jones recounts the creation of Rocky, highlights from his time as the mascot, as well as his time as a student at Slippery Rock State College.
