Provenance

This is the original Rocky the Rock mascot costume designed and worn by the donor, Bob Jones, class of 1983. He portrayed the mascot as a student at Slippery Rock State College and also at Slippery Rock University events as an alumnus. Rocky made its debut in 1978. The idea of the mascot came from Bob and his parents Dick and Frances Jones. His mother constructed the costume. Also included are the donor’s personal scrapbook that includes photos, news clippings, and ticket stubs related to his participation as the Rocky mascot at various events. Jones was interviewed in the Archives Feb. 24 by intern Andrew Hill. This recording will be included with the Subject file on this collection.
